Hogsmeade Village in Universal Studios Hollywood

In the past, I’ve visited Universal Studios Hollywood without the proper tips or a plan—and I spend half the day feeling out of sorts. First, if you’re planning to avoid the long lines, you certainly need some tups. Second, if you want to get your money’s worth during your visit—you’ll need some tips! That’s why I compiled my top 5 tips for visiting Universal Studios Hollywood and what to expect before you go.

5 Universal Studios Hollywood Tips

  1. Get There Early – I recommend arriving at least 30 minutes before Universal Studios Hollywood opens. Everyone seems to roll into the park about 60-90 minutes after opening. So take advantage of the low crowds by getting there early!
  2. Download the Universal Studios California App – This free app tells you wait times and you can book the Virtual Line for The Secret Life of Pets: off the Leash (during select times). It’s an excellent tool for planning your route.
  3. Choose A Path – If you want to ride Jurassic World, go on this FIRST. It’s on the lower lot, so head down there early before the lines get insane later in the day. If you’re skipping out on Jurassic World, make Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey your starting point. If possible, make sure you’ve completed as many rides as you can before 11am and are in line for the Studio Tour by that time.
  4. Break Midday – Afternoon lines are the craziest at Universal Studios. This is the time to head to CityWalk for table service lunch and then shop around Hogsmeade in The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
  5. Universal Express – Universal Studios Hollywood will have some some wildly long lines this summer and during the holiday season. But you can actually pay to skip the lines with the Universal Express Pass (about $105 or more on top of your ticket price). If it’s in your budget, I recommend purchasing Express as it makes for a much more relaxed experience.
