Six need-to-know Disneyland Lightning Lane tips! Yesterday, I learned some surprising things after using the new Lightning Lanes at Disneyland. Here’s what you should know:

BOOK QUICKLY – Once you use a Genie+ Lightning Lane, you can book another right away! It’s very fast and easy.

INDIVIDUAL LIGHTNING LANE PRICES – Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, Radiator Springs Racers, and WEB Slingers use Individual Lightning Lanes that cost an additional $7 – $20 each per rider per day. On launch day, Rise of the Resistance was $20, and the other two were $7 each. I wasn’t expecting Rise to be THAT much, and I’m curious if it’ll sell out on weekdays at that price point.

BOOKING INDIVIDUAL LIGHTNING LANES – You can book an Individual Lightning Lane for the opposite park at any time. For example, suppose you start at Disneyland and plan to hop later in the day to Disney California Adventure. You can purchase an Individual Lightning Lane for Radiator Springs Racers and WEB Slingers at any time. However, you will be given an adjusted time slot after 1PM when your park hopping time begins.

FIRST TIME SLOT AVAILABLE – Unfortunately, you cannot choose which time your Lightning Lane reservation is. Instead, you are forced to select the next available. To me, this was a bit of a letdown. Nevertheless, it made booking pretty easy.

GRACE PERIOD – You can enter a Lightning Lane up to 5 minutes before its scheduled time. For example, if your Lightning Lane reservation is at 10:30AM, you can show up at 10:25AM, and it should work. You also have up to 15 minutes after your reservation window ends to show up before the Lightning Lane cancels. Keep in mind that these grace periods could change at any time, and you’re only guaranteed entry during your given window. Thanks to @just.ask.danny for confirmation on this!

BONUS TIP – Though you must book your first Lightning Lane once inside a park, you can continue to book anywhere else after that. For example, I was home and able to book a Lightning Lane reservation even after I left the parks. This is a useful feature for nearby hotel guests and those wishing to shop or eat in Downtown Disney.
